Introduction

Moved to Cary in 2007 from Northern VA where I was a member of NV Racing. I was very excited to learn that there was a similar AR training club in the area and I look forward to meeting you all out on the trails and at upcoming ARs

Have you ever reached a point in an adventure (race or not) where getting dirtier/wetter didn't matter any more? Did that feel like despair or freedom?

I have never met an Adventure Racer who hasn't - it's part of the fun, right? Life is about experiencing it, so BRING IT ON!!! I can only imagine what great explorer's like Shackleton and his crew would think about today's Adventure Races.

Have you ever mountain biked on a trail at night?

Mostly at 24 HR Adventure Races and overnight AR Diets....and occasionally when a training session goes too late. Some of my best falls are at night. I usually try to race my bike down the mountain and end up winning :o(

Have you learned how to use a compass and map to navigate?

I learned how to get around while in the Army and am always trying to improve my abilities with a compass, terrain association, route planning, and other navigation techniques. My favorite part of getting lost is thinking I know where I am.

Have you participated in an adventure race before? What is interesting to you about AR?

I participated in Odyssey Sprint ARs, EX2 Sprint Events, Gold Nugget 12 HR, the Lionheart 24 HR, Untamed VA 30 HR, and the Odyssey EFIX 3 and 3.5 Day. I like ARs for the unique challenges and training for the unknown.

What's your strongest AR discipline - biking, paddling, trekking, ropes, navigation? Your weakest?

I am fairly well-rounded in most areas, but excel in trekking, mountain biking, and navigation. Paddling and swimming are probably my weakest events, while I am most looking forward to working on my ropes skills.
