On Sunday, we'll need to pick up the checkpoint controls from the Gold Nugget AR. If you'd like the chance to practice your navigation, riding, and/or paddling skills, we could use the help! With enough people involved, we can split up the controls and make this job go much quicker. Ideally we'll be able to get everything picked up by noon. Let me know if you have any questions. Don C

We'll be setting up the race HQ area for the 2008 Gold Nugget Adventure Race. Meet at the Badin Lake Group Camp. Extra hands will be useful as we set up the tent shelters, banners, registration tables, etc. We'll also need help assembling the racer goodie bags that will be given out later at registration. Come help out for some or all of the time (please put your expected arrival time in the RSVP comments section). The more hands we have to help, the quicker it will go and the easier it will be! We'll start around 3pm and will need to have most of it set up by 6pm, when team check-in begins. We can also use extra hands to help with team check-in. Check-in runs from 6 to 9 pm. After setup and check-in, race volunteers can camp for free, at the same location. Once we know who is helping out, we can work out plans for cooking burgers, hotdogs, etc for the volunteers. Let me know if you have any questions. Remember, all of the Friday evening activities are in the Group Camp, so you'll have plenty of chances to talk with incoming racers and learn more about adventure racing, gear, different race strategies, etc. If nothing else, it's a great chance to hang out with a great bunch of people! I'll be putting in another long MTB ride Sunday morning starting at 7am. If anyone wants to meet earlier I would be glad to have some company, just post up a message indicating the time you can start etc. Otherwise a more reasonable approach is the 9am meet-up time. This is an intermediate ride with some long sections of singletrack built in so just be prepared. Ride will end around 11am.

Triangle paddlers are having the 4th annual triangle paddlefest kayak race on Sept. 27. There are different catagories and distance options. There will be a 6 and 12 mile race. Some of the top kayak clubs in the southeast are schedule to show. Most of these will be ICF K-1 racers, some of the fastest boats on the water. See website for registration www.trianglepaddlers .com or ask me any other questions. There maybe some boats available for rental through club or Lake Crabtree rental facility.
